“The greatest gift that one artist can give another is inspiration. If you can inspire another artist to do something, whether it’s write a song, sing one of your songs, you know, whatever. If you can inspire another artist to create something, that is so freaking cool. There’s not a whole lot that’s cooler to me, man. Especially if it happens, like, randomly. Like, I’m just surfing the internet, scrolling through videos, and I see somebody. That is so cool. I got lucky in that the first person to record a song of mine was Cody Jinks. Must Be the Whiskey was the very first one. And as cool as that is - I’m not taking anything away from that, that’s incredible. I owe a lot to Jinks - that’s just as cool to me as I saw this 17-year-old kid named Luke Deuce, who recorded must be the whiskey. It was so awesome and was so freaking cool. While one version may have been a little bit more 'successful' depending on how you determine success, to me, they’re equally as freaking cool.”
